through the looking glass

a snapshot of my life, my inspirations, dreams, and what i'm listening to

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

7 Stages of Justin Beibers “Boyfriend” (A True Story)

1. Shock and Denial

I haven’t heard “The Whisper Song” in YEARS! I danced my ass to this at my high school Winter Formal. wait… this isn’t Ying Yang Twins

2. Pain

what? it’s JUSTIN BEIBER? you’re joking. why am i still listening when people with actual talent are on my iPod

3. Anger

HOW ARE YOU SO FAMOUS?!

4. Guilt

He’s famous because I’m still listening. It’s all my fault!

5. Bargaining

Maybe if I just listen to it for a second and at a really low volume

6. Depression

I think I contracted Bieber fever :(

7. Acceptance

Fuck it, I’m blasting this song really loud i don’t care what anyone thinks!

Pogo is an Australian DJ who remixed sights and sounds from Bhutan, TIbet. You can really feel the culture and heart in the video.

This is part of his project to travel the world capturing sights, sounds, voices and chords, and use them to compose and shoot a track and video for each major culture of the world. It’s called World Remix and is funded solely by listeners. You can donate and receive his latest track and the funds go to him and and his crew to travel to the next part of world to film and record. Really an interesting endeavor fusing world culture, music, and cinemetography together.

Pogo is an australian DJ who blew my mind with his remix and remake of Pixar’s Up into a music video using only the music from the movie and voices to seamlessly create a pretty solid song. Also, who doesn’t love UP?

I’m loving this countdown to Coachella thing i’ve been doing. It reminds me of all the amazing artists are gonna be there and giving me a chance to revisit them on my iPod. There’s nothing worse then outplaying a song you love that you’re sick of hearing it. But after a nice break its a total eargasm.

Point is, here is another Nero track remixed by Skrillex. I was obsessed with this song when it came out last summer where I played it on straight repeat.

Nero-Day 3

If this song doesn’t make you wanna jump up and dance then you’re dead. Ridiculously catchy. Nero has more of a house dance music vibe this time around where dubstep is usually his jam.

Every time I hear this groove,

Headlining Friday, Day 1: Swedish House Mafia- One (Your Name)

BOOM! This song is so epic. Everything Pharrell touches turns to gold, I’ve raved about Swedish House Mafia ever since they blew the top off at EDC 2010 and I’ve only gained more respect for them since then especially after watching their documentary Swedish House Mafia: Take One. It was genius of Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, and Steve Angello, already famous DJs in their own right, to collaborate together to make epic house/dance music. Now, they’re probably one of the highest paid performers in the industry especially after making history this past December when they were the first electronic act to perform at Madison Square Garden in NYC.

Polaroid’s launched a Mac app that’s lets you turn any photo into a Polaroid.

You can play with 28 filters (8 are especially made to look like different Polaroid films), add frames and writing on your photos.

You can even print them out at full-res if you so please!

Polaroid’s Mac App Lets You Make Polaroids Out of Any Photo

Stop making this app, keep making film, Polaroid.

Dumb idea polaroid… Just make some more damn film so I don’t have to pay like 60$ for an expired cartridge

Day 1, Friday: M83- We Own the Sky

Thank god the French-tastic M83 is finally getting some recognition in the US! Their critically acclaimed album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is a must listen. You might’ve heard “Midnight City” playing on your local radio station or in car commercials, however, it was this 2008 track is what made M83 show up on my radar. Sorry for not posting a newer track but it’s my blog and I’m a nostalgic motherfucker.

Friday, Day 1: Datsik

Another dubstep artist making an appearance at Coachella this year is Datsik. It’s not surprising when you look at the tremendous surge in popularity dubstep has been getting in the past year. It’s trendy, obvii. Skrillex won like 5 Grammys.

This song is not your typical womp wa wa wobble womppp robot sex sounds. Its a nice happy-go-lucky track that gives MGMT’s “Kids” a funky edge. Thats what I personally love about dubstep and EDM music in general, DJs can take a surprising song and remix it in a way that you wouldn’t expect to work, elevating it to another level while somehow still retaining the original songs essence.

Friday, Day 1: Feed Me

What cracks me up about the Coachella line-up poster is that the bigger names/headliners are in huge type while the lesser known acts get smaller and smaller until you almost need a microscope to see their names. The ironic thing it the “smaller” acts are the ones that are guaranteed to blow up in the incoming year. You can bet on the London- based dubstep DJ who has gained recognition on the scene to break on the mainstream media soon. His dubstep take on Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” gives it a car cruising feel that I think is essential in every good song. This is one song that you can blast at high volumes in the car with your windows down and not be embarrassed.

Friday: Alesso

This Swedish producer has been blowing up the scene in 2011 with the infectious remix of Nadia Ali’s “Pressure”. Starting it off right with his debut at this years Coachella, 2012 will definitely be the year of Alesso. I’d even go far enough to say that he has Avicii levels of greatness in his future if he plays his cards right. How can you expect anything less from Sebastian Ingrosso’s (playing a solo set Satuday and with SHM on Sunday) prodigy? This is one of the songs that you won’t be able to stop listening to. Definitely one of my favorites!
